After months of silence, the winner of a $426 million Mega Millions jackpot finally came forward Wednesday.
The California Lottery called it the year's largest victory. Hers was the lone national winning ticket.
Mega Millions winner Kristine Wellenstein won $426 million.
Despite her fame, she wants to stay private.
Wellenstein told the California Lottery, "I was flooded with emotions, but largely thankfulness."
She purchased the winning ticket at a Woodland Hills Chevron.
California schools will earn $40 million.
Wellenstein chose a lump amount.
"My staff is ready to assist me promote local and global efforts," she stated. "My life's job really starts today."
The jackpot rolled 27 times beginning in October 2021.
The petrol station at 6061 Topanga Canyon Boulevard earns $1 million for selling the winning ticket.
