Two Southern California police officers slain, official says.

L.A. Two Southern California police officers were slain after responding to a stabbing call, and the suspect was also killed.

The fatal shooting occurred near El Monte, east of Los Angeles, around 4:47 p.m.
El Monte police rushed to a hotel after a stabbing incident.

When they approached the suspect at the hotel, police and sheriff's homicide shot him. Meyer, Capt.

The guy left the hotel room, and officers shot him in the parking area, Meyer said.
Two injured cops died Tuesday evening, Meyer added.

The suspect was shot and killed, he said.
Sequence specifics were unclear. A pistol was found near the suspect, said Meyer.

One of the killed cops had 22 years of experience, while the other had less than a year.
