Mater Dei High School closes over credible threat

The school notified the Santa Ana police department and the Diocese of Orange and decided to shut until June 3.

As the inquiry proceeds, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Orange closed the school.

Police aren't disclosing when or how Mater Dei got the threat or why they suspect a former employee.
Tuesday afternoon, campus leaders notified parents:

"Implemented safety and sweep measures. Mater Dei takes all threats seriously, notwithstanding the disturbing nature of this communication."

Neighbors applaud the Diocese of Orange's decision to temporarily shut Mater Dei.
Manuel Perez, a father, said the school should be closed and armed guards hired.
