Google owes Illinois residents money for their faces

The tech corporation resolved a class action lawsuit in Illinois over Google Photos data privacy issues for $100 million.

Plaintiffs sued Google, claiming it violated Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act.

Google Photos gathers data on facial geometry to evaluate similarities and differences between individuals. 

"Google collects, stores, and uses the biometrics of millions of unknowing people whose faces appear in Illinois Google Photos without warning, signed agreement, or data retention restrictions

Google has developed, collected, and stored millions of 'facial templates' (or 'face models') from Google Photos users."
