Fisherman charged as video shows octopus being torn alive

A Florida Keys commercial fisherman was charged with animal cruelty after viral video showed him ripping apart a live octopus.

The November 2017 video also shows a second fisherman bashing a shark against the boat, but no one has been arrested.

More arrests are anticipated, FWC spokesman Jason Rafter said Monday.

PETA posted a video on Facebook showing Mora cutting off a live octopus' head. The head or mantle houses vital organs.

Octopuses are one of the most neurologically evolved and sophisticated invertebrates, and they may be able to sense pain like humans.

Octopuses are clever, with a bigger brain-to-body size ratio than any other animals save birds and mammals.
